DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES:

  • iRest yoga nidra level 1 Meditation: iRest is a meditation practice based on the ancient tradition of Yoga Nidra and adapted to suit the conditions of modern life. When practiced regularly – little and often – iRest enables you to meet each moment of your life with unshakable peace and wellbeing, no matter how challenging or difficult your situation. {Extracted from the iRest website on the 18th of January 2024; https://www.irest.org/about-irest}

    iRest was developed by Dr. Richard Miller, a spiritual teacher, author, yogic scholar, researcher and clinical psychologist, who combined traditional yogic practice with Western psychology and neuroscience. It is practiced and taught by thousands of people worldwide in a wide range of settings, including health centers, schools, community centers, yoga studios, correctional facilities and within military and veteran communities.

    iRest has historically been endorsed by the U.S. Army Surgeon General and recognized by the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury as a form of complementary and alternative medicine, thus warranting continuing research on its efficacy in the treatment of post- traumatic stress. iRest has been shown to be effective in scientific trials for conditions including chronic pain, sleep problems, depression and anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

    iRest is simple to learn and easy to practice. It can be practiced by anyone, regardless of physical ability or experience with meditation. Once learned, iRest becomes a set of tools for life.

  • Sound Healing: Sound healing is an ancient form of therapy that has been used by various cultures around the world for thousands of years. It involves the use of various sound frequencies and vibrations to promote healing, relaxation, and balance in the body, mind, and spirit. Erin was trained in sound healing by Christine Moorison who offers a unique course which encompasses three different levels to which she calls; Soul Musicality. • Swedish/Relaxation/Therapeutic Massage: Swedish Massage is one of the most common and effective massage therapy modalities. A wonderful combination of light to firm gliding strokes, integrated with stretching and ranging of the joints, it is a process that promotes total relaxation and muscle tension release.
  • Deep Tissue Massage: A type of massage in which the fingers, thumbs and elbows are used to release chronic muscle tension, using slow, deep strokes and friction; the therapist may work perpendicularly to the length of the fibers of the superficial muscles, with the intent of massaging muscle that lies underneath.
  • Sports Massage: Sports massage is a form of bodywork geared toward participants in athletics. It is used to help prevent injuries, to prepare the body for athletic activity and maintain it in optimal condition, and to help athletes recover from workouts and injuries. Sports massage has three basic forms: pre-event massage, post-event massage, and maintenance massage.
  • Myofascial Release: Myofascial Release (MFR) is a holistic, therapeutic approach to manual therapy, popularized by John Barnes, PT, LMT, NCTMB. MFR offers a comprehensive approach for the evaluation and treatment of the myofascial system, the system of tissues and muscles in the body. This technique is designed to release restrictions such a trigger points, muscle tightness, and dysfunctions in soft tissue that may cause pain and limit motion in all parts of the body. It has shown success in decreasing pain and increasing mobility. The main tissue that MFR focuses on for release in the myofascial system is the fascia. Fascia is a fine tissue that surrounds all structures in the body including muscles, nerves, vessels, and bones. MFR allows the therapist to evaluate, identify, and treat fascial restrictions. These restrictions can be caused by numerous factors, such as trauma, musculoskeletal conditions, repetitive stress syndrome, and poor posture. By applying gentle, hands-on techniques to the whole body, positive structural changes may occur, such as increased range of motion, decreased pain, and, most importantly, increased fascial mobility. In combination with traditional physiotherapy, MFR can help clients return to their daily and recreational activities. • Myofascial Cupping Technique: Myofascial Cupping Technique was developed by David Sheehan in 2002.  This technique is a gentler technique than most that aides the muscle-skeletal and fascial systems of the body.  A lubricant can be used which allows the cups to slide without causing as much of the subcutaneous bruising that is an objective of many other techniques such as Chinese Gua sha and traditional Fire cupping.  The benefits of myofascial cupping are vast and this technique can even be used in working with scars, aiding in recovery of the tissues by increasing nutrient rich blood supply to an injured area.
  • Marble Stone Massage: Marble is a naturally cool stone, suited to cooling massage treatments. They act as a powerful decongestant, helping to diffuse swelling in the circulatory system making it ideal for working on inflammation and sporting injuries. Marble stones are also ideal for people who suffer with headaches and some forms of migraine.  Depending on the severity of the headache/migraine, massage may be contraindicated. Speak to your therapist about your particular case to make sure this type of therapy is for you.  In addition, Cold stones can also be massaged around the delicate eye area to help reduce puffiness and dark circles and to improve skin tone. They can also be used on the sinus area to relieve pain and congestion. Aromatherapy is applied often in the massage treatment of marble stone application.
